What To Do With Pets When Selling Your Home

As a dog owner, I sympathize with those of you who are wondering what to do with your pets once you’ve listed your home for sale. It’s recommended that you remove all traces of your pets during showings and open houses so as not to turn away potential buyers. Many people are allergic to dogs and cats, and others are simply not comfortable around them. So, what should you do with pets when selling your home? Here are some suggestions:

1. Arrange for someone you trust to take care of them

2. Board them for a short period

3.  Hire a dog walker

4. Take them to work with you for the day

5. If you’re not living in your home while it’s listed, bring them with you

Additionally, all traces of your animal friends (i.e., litter boxes, smells, food bowls, etc.) should be removed from your home as well. Pet smells will turn buyers away and affect your bottom line, and personal items (such as your pets belongings) should always be put away during showings and open houses. Buyers like to envision themselves living in a home and it’s difficult to do so when traces of your pets are present. Removing them from the home before showings and open houses will help to ensure that your home sells faster, and for the best possible price.
