February kicks off Burger Month in Seattle. Popular burger chain, Lil’ Woody’s, began celebrating its 9th annual Burger Month last Tuesday, February 7th. Each week, all Lil Woody’s locations are hosting a talented chef who is offering their “culinary twist on the beloved sandwich”. Customers who visit weekly will be able to taste a variety of burgers – from a kimchi rendition to a crispy fried pig ear and Mama Lil’s Peppers combo. And if participating in Burger Month isn’t enough to satisfy your craving, we’ve rounded up 11 of the best spots in Seattle for mind-blowing burgers:
- Shake Shack
University District, South Lake Union, Kirkland
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any burger on the menu from this beloved NYC chain. Everything from the Chicken Shack to the Smoke Shack is delicious. And if you’re a vegetarian, you will love the ‘Shroom Burger made with a crisp-fried portobello mushroom and filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheese. Fries: Crinkle-cut. - Red Mill Burgers
Interbay, Phinney Ridge
This Seattle burger joint has been around for 25 years. The smoky house sauce and impeccable bun-patty-topping ratio is what keeps customers coming back for more. Not to mention, Oprah Winfrey was quoted saying the hamburgers here are a must-try. Fries: Golden, generously salted, and delicious with a side of Mill sauce. - 8oz Burger and Co
Ballard, Capitol Hill
8 oz Burger Co is known for its half-pound patties and curious combinations. The menu features interesting burgers like The Hill (espresso rubbed patty with arugula, fried shallots, candied bacon, gorgonzola, and peppercorn aioli) and The Ballard Ave (frisee, fig jam, cinnamon spiced peanut butter, bacon, and fontina cheese). The whiskey selection here is great too. Fries: Garlic truffle. - Dick’s Drive-In
Various locations
Much like coffee, Dick’s is a Seattle staple. (It has been around since 1954, after all). The menu is limited, and that’s because this fast-food restaurant specializes in no-fuss burgers with perfectly thin patties, American cheese, lettuce, mayo, and a hint of pickle relish on a soft bun. Fries: Crispy and golden. - Lil Woody’s
Ballard, Capitol Hill, White Center, T-Mobile Park
Lil Woody’s is a multi-joint burger shop serving up specialty burgers topped with both traditional and non-traditional toppings. If you prefer a classic burger, try the Lil Woody, topped with Tillamook cheddar, chopped onions, diced pickles, mayo, and ketchup. For those who like to experiment, try The Fig & The Pig, made with pickled fig, bacon, crumbled blue cheese and mayo. Fries: Hand-cut and queso fries. - Uneeda Burger
Fremont
This is the perfect burger spot for those who like to experiment with flavors. Variations include the Big Bison with onion jam and bacon and the Lamb with pickled peppers and tempura lemons. Sides include vegetable tempura and fried cheese curds. Fries: Sweet potato or regular. - Big Max Burger Co
Queen Anne
If you love the taste of a McDonalds Big Mac but want to taste something a little more elevated, you’ve got to try the “Big Max” cheeseburger. It’s a double burger made with dry aged beef and bacon patties, lettuce, pickles, chopped red onion, aged cheddar, malt and maple ketchup, on a toasted challah bun. Fries: Seasoned shoestring. - The Swinery
West Seattle

Fries: Tossed 3x in rendered pork fat and topped with garlic, chives, and salt. - Loretta’s Northwesterner
South Park
Loretta’s is bar, so when you visit order the no-fuss, aptly named Tavern Burger. It’s made drive-in style with charbroiled beef and melted cheese, wrapped up in a toasted white bun with pickles, onion, and special sauce. Complete your meal with a beer and fries. Fries: Skin on. - Mean Sandwich
Ballard
Head to this burger-slash-sandwich joint for a burger made with grass-fed and grass-finished beef. The menu features traditional burgers like The D.A.M burger (American cheese, white onion, pickle, and mustard/mayo on a buttered grilled challah bun), and unusual burgers like The Mean (thick cut griddled corned beef, house-made yellow mustard, pickled red cabbage, and fresh picked mint). - Sunny Hill
Ballard/Sunset Hill
So, this restaurant is known for its deep-dish Detroit-style pizza, but the Sunny Burger is also delightful. It’s made with iceberg lettuce, frizzled onion, and umami (soy sauce and tamarind) ketchup. Fries: Waffle.
