5 Seattle Bookstores to Visit on a Rainy Day

Even though Spring is officially here, all Northwest locals know a couple rainy days stand between us and the more consistent sunny days of summer. Try getting out and about in Seattle (even on a rainy day) by checking out some of the best independent bookstores the city has to offer.

Ophelia’s Books
Since 1997, Ophelia’s Books has been an eclectic source of quality used reading materials in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. This little Fremont store has staircases that twist between three levels, with plenty of used books on each, plus a resident cat.

Madison Books
Sitting on a quaint, tree-lined street right by Madison Park Beach is Madison Books. As one of five finalists for Publishers Weekly’s 2022 Bookstore of the Year Award, Madison’s full array of titles is a must peruse.

Nook and Cranny Books
Nook & Cranny is a new and used bookstore and community space. Their mission is to celebrate stories on the printed page and beyond.

Queen Anne Book Company
Queen Anne Book Company offers a community space, lots of selection, and plenty of patio seating. They love to share our knowledge and are happy to help you find the book you want and need, anytime.

Elliot Bay Book Company
Located in the heart of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Elliott Bay offers one of the region’s best selection of new books with over 150,000 titles. In addition, Elliott Bay presents an unparalleled schedule of author readings and events throughout the year.
